Compliance
Compliance for Kenyan Importers
EAC Common External Tariff
Kenya applies EAC CET on hotel textiles (HS 6302) from India. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) customs department handles Mombasa Port clearance. Confirm applicable EAC CET rate for your specific HS sub-heading.
Kenya VAT (16%)
Kenya standard VAT of 16% applies on import CIF + duty value. VAT-registered Kenyan businesses (hotel operating companies) can recover input VAT.
Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS)
KEBS pre-export verification of conformity (PVoC) is required for certain goods imported to Kenya. Textile imports must comply with KEBS textile standards. Confirm PVOC requirement for your shipment with your Kenyan clearing agent.
COMESA Certificate of Origin
If claiming COMESA preferential rates (India is not a COMESA member so standard EAC CET applies), standard commercial documents (Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading, CoO) are required.
Mombasa SGR ICD
Kenya's Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Nairobi Inland Container Depot (ICD) allows direct container delivery to Nairobi without off-loading at Mombasa. Reduces transit time for Nairobi hotel buyers.
